What would happen to Obama if he pulled a “Zuma”?

In this blog, I’m keen to hear some of your thoughts on one or any of these random questions… It might inspire more posts from my side.

What would happen to Obama if news broke of a love child?

Why are we so unwilling to address churchiness, truthiness or apathy? Is   it because we only value truth if others value it too, which means we’re unconvinced ourselves?

If modelling is so great, why are they so incredibly sad? (I saw a bunch of models at the airport…geez, I wanted to cry. Be kind, think about it. Don’t just bash them because you’re ugly)

Regarding shortcomings, we usually empathize with someone else’s sin, if we suffer the same guilt. But!! We all hate pride while we’re all guilty of it! Why do we hate pride so specifically?

Regarding ice-cream. How many like it icy? How many like it creamy?

How do you know whether you are overconnected?

What is a sane Christian response to Zuma’s affairs? Is it an issue of privacy, or is it an issue of necessary character for the public office?

How scared are you of lonely people?

Which single idea encourages you the most?

If you had to describe your view, the unchurched’s view, and God’s view of the church in a word each, what would your three words be? (I’m not necessarily looking for cynical answers, so describe your own church from the three perspectives) What does the gaps between these realities do for your intentions?

How responsible do you feel when you are shopping, for things like justice, fair trade, green issues and animal rights?

Are you doing what you are supposed to?

How much of your yesterday was servicing previous choices, as opposed to making fresh decisions?

Anyway, let’s see if anyone can give us a proverbial kick in the backside with their opinion.

  1. Isn’t interesting that Tiger Woods gets hammered for his infidelity but not necessarily someone like Bill Clinton. As long as people don’t try to be the squeaky clean sportsman or politician then it seems to be okay as long as I benefit from them – In Bill Clinton’s term of office the economic situation was seemingly healthy – so don’t rock the boat he is benefiting me!

Look at the response to John Terry of Chelsea and the English football Captain – likley to lose his captaincy because of his infidelity! Yet many will fornicate and jump from one partner to another.

Is it not that Sportsmen like Woods and Terry make the world feel good about themselves as they watch and worship these men. When they fall (not to disimilar to Hansie Cronje) their followers revolt because they should have better morals than that and people’s idols have been smashed.

But politicians like Zuma and Clinton are simply known to and are expected to fornicate and are not their idols but simply helpful side bars that keep people’s economic lives secure?

  2. With so many questions, I’ll have to keep my answers very short! Well, not neccesarily answers, but my personal and simplistic thoughts summed up in one word about each of the questions:
Scandal, Ignorance, Pretence, Pride, Creamy, Time, Testimony, Little, Love, Relationship (x3), Partial, Partial, Partial

  3. sounds like you want to write the next “freakonomics” book – which by the way you MUST read.

I like my ice-cream VERY creamy.

I think Obama did what Zuma did, the american public would call for an impeachment – they would effectively remove him from office.

I think the models are hungry.

    Church? family; judgemental; daughter

Fair trade? I really wish i cared more, but the truth is we’re all just trying to make the most of our money!

Single idea encourages me the most? Nothing could change the level of God’s love toward me!

  4. We tend to judge others from a position of strength never from our weakness

is it right to judge sinners according to a Christiaan moral code

Ben Laden was one of 51 children and fathered 28 children I think the Muslims have a plan How many children should a Christiaan have if we profess to be the only people with a hope for the future

  5. Some thoughts/ideas:
The world doesn’t share my value system/ moral standards. Never will or I wouldn’t need a saviour. That goes for Zuma and Obama and myself.
Churchiness? Depends on how you define church. For me it’s not an organization but an organism. Not into buildings, systems and structures but relationships/friendships and caring. Something that’s not found in organized “church”. Sorry stepping on some toes.
Models? Well it’s all based on external/ visual appeal. So it HAS to be a let down for models…
Shortcomings? Have enough thanks. Don’t always understand my situation. Wrestling with God, but I’m not the first.
Icecream? Creamy and (important)need to share it with someone. Hard for a bachelor like me.
Overconnected? In 2010, yes we are. Why? Overconnected= Busy, too busy…
Zuma’s affairs- Scary, as I said he does not share my value system. Punk!!
Lonely people? I’m one. scared of myself. Working on it. No success.
Encouraging Idea? Free believer, frightens you but it’s liberating. Church is an organism. Sorry my ou!!
Church? Loyal friendship, support, mutual encouragement. Nowhere to be found in Institutional churches. NOWHERE!!!
Shopping? Not doing that presently due to my prolonged unemployment. Sorry, no answer…
Am I doing what I am supposed to? NO, NO NO. What am I supposed to do? Don’t know? Confused? So am I.
Everyday is a new day! Servicing “Yesterday” or thinking about “Tomorrow” depends on who I meet and what happens.
Kick in the backside? Well that’s not my responsibility. If it feels like that’s what I’ve done, my apology. I am the least of the brethren. Paul thought he was but then, I wasn’t born yet.
Thanks for allowing me to grind my axe on your blog Heinz

    • Sorry misunderstood you at some point.
Issue? My view, unchurched view and God’s view of church:
Mine: Church is an organism not an organization. Institutional church has not addressed my need for good mutual, supportive, fellowship with fellow believers. It’s too structural and all about systems/ programs/ structure. If I don’t “serve” the systems the IC has no need of me. I also believe the New Covenant makes me the church and God dwells internally in me through His Spirit, not in a place of meeting. Hebr. 9
Unchurched: This is the place to be. It is where we as people meet with God. We are dependent on the system. If I don’t go regularly, God is going to punish me and I must feel guilty. The “Pastor” is the only person who hears from God. I need the pastor. Church meetings are supposed to be orderly and structured.
God’s view: Well maybe He should answer this. I know one thing: The New Covenant He made he made with Himself not with me. And this is AMAZING!! That’s why Paul says Jesus is the mediator who usually represents the two parties and in this case He doesn’t because God is one. Wow, AMAZING.
      God Bless, Bye

  6. Obama: well I think alot of people will call for his impeachment. But alot will depend on how he reacts. Models: some of them might think that this is as good as its gonna get. Zuma: for me the Christain response would be to take whatever lessons you can from this, without judging him for his faults.
We all hate pride so much coz we are all guilty of it. And we dont like being faced with it, coz then we have to deal with it.
The single idea that encourages me the most: i didnt chose to be saved. God chose to save me.

  7. What do you understand Our response should be to discipleship?

    Comment by Johan | February 9, 2010 | Reply

    • Discipleship should flow forth from abundant life not lack. My relational walk with God should testify of Him not my “door to door” effort. My life should witness the relationship with Father which leads to discipleship. At least that’s what I think.

  8. mmmm… let him without sin throw the first stone… I am always the guy who like to comment, always commenting on this and on that … but in reality, who cares what I think.

Bottom line is that a public figure like JZ should be responsible and more so, accountble for his actions. That does not mean that one should now start condemning him left, right and center … it’s not as if he hasn’t done this before … mmm … there I go again. Lets try and learn from this and show faith by extending a forgiveness leaf to him to show how one should live a life.

As far as the models are concerned, no comment. I am pretty, oh so pretty … as the song goes :-) Nico

  9. Hey there Heinz, I’ve thought about this myself. All I know is that if the press got hold of a love child between Obama and some woman who never received a cent of child support, the press would still be chewing on the last shreds of meat on his political carcass. Here, on the other hand, we all got a proverbial slap in the face from the ANC (“he did nothing wrong!”), and the whole incident descends into drips and drabs of criticism just 48 hours after the story emerges. How is it that we’ve become so passive and apathetic a people? So helpless?

I’m not one to think the US has it altogether. But it is obvious that America’s riding on the blessings of their late late……forefathers – a fact that shows up the unbelievable power of the gospel and its generational blessings. The majority of Americans may not even believe in the bible these days, but they’re unknowingly demanding to live by its principles – insisting on a political system that promotes the common good over individual gain. Obama won because he gained Hillary’s voters’ support. And this would’ve never happened if Hillary hadn’t publicly backed him and reminded the people that there’s something greater at store than her victory. There’s America itself.

The bible may be viewed as backward by most first-world societies today, but it’s the source of western civilisation. It’s the key to all their progress, and it will be the key to their future.

I have great hope for this nation. In some ways I wonder whether our strength will lie in knowing that government is not the source to all our solutions. Though we want to see the Kingdom come we really know that Zuma and his party do not hold the keys to our future. The Church alone is the answer. America, on the other hand, seems to have replaced true faith in Christ with faith in politics. Many people I know start and end their days with CNN.

Ah, at the end of the day God’s not so concerned with these factors. We just keep preaching the gospel with our words and our lives… I’m not sure if I added anything here…hmm….

Well, here’s another fact. Ice cream must definitely be super creamy. Like, duh!
